GROUP EVALUATION: POWHZ

1. The group covered their topic very well.
2-3. Since their project is already done, I can not suggest anything anymore. The game is very interactive and simple. It can easily be used by the students. The animations and drawings are very good too.

GROUP EVALUATION: PAPIGURA

1. The group changed from the topics which included cells and body systems into one topic which is the digestive system. So i think they can be able to cover the scope when deadline comes.

2-3. If possible, they should try to make their e-book longer and provide a more thorough explanation because the readers would be very young students. But it is nice that they used a very light approach in presenting their subject matter. The drawings are nice too.

GROUP EVALUATION: KARE

1. The group was able to cover the scope they wanted to achieve which is primarily about graphs. The application they created also has a light approach which is suitable for young grade schoolers that will be using their application.

2-3. I think the project is very well planned and implemented. They also are aligned with the nature theme. :) So i do not have any suggestion or comment regarding their work.

GROUP EVALUATION:WOOF

1. The group stated that they are almost done with the project so i think they have been able to accomplish the things they included in their storyboard. Their scope is kinda broad for it included earth sciences, marine sciences and astronomy.

2-3. I think the scope is a little bit unsuitable with the grade 4 students but it still depends on the content of the game itself. They have aligned their game with the nature theme which i think is very good. I just would like to suggest that they must be a little bit specific with their scope so that it would be easy for the student to play their game. And also, they should prepare questions with a light approach for the players would be young grade 4 students only.

GROUP EVALUATION: M3

1. The group obviously wants to cover the different body systems. If they are going to push through with what is written in their story board, Yes they will be able to achieve their chosen scope but with the presentation, i think there will be a little problem.

2.Choosing the "monster" as the thing to be created by the player, may lead to some misunderstandings. I think it will be a little awkward if a monster will have body organs like that of the humans which in turn can be a little bit misleading. Well, children identify the location of such organs included in a system by pointing at their own bodies. So if they will be presented with a new physical structure (i.e monster) then they may be a little bit confused. But in contrast, i still think it's fun to create your own monster. I also would like to suggest that they align their course ware with the section's nature theme.

GROUP EVALUATION: HEX

link : http://hexgroup.blogspot.com/

1. The group was able to cover the scope that they intended to do for their course ware. It is obvious that they have progressed a lot already. They have prepared the clickables and informations that are necessary for their project.

2-3. Well, The only thing that i can suggest is that they should align their course ware to the nature theme that was chosen for our whole section. With the content, I think it's pretty okay and well prepared.

Latest Update

Karl Len Mae Dimla and Arvin Tomacruz are the only remaining members of Team Base 10.
As Ma'am shelly advised us, We are still trying to cut down the scope of our Game (application). But at the moment, we are going to stick with our earlier storyboard.

We already have coded some of the minor parts of the game like the Introduction part, male/female identification ,choosing the character and about the authors. The game parts are still on the process of coding by Arvin Tomacruz. And the rest of the game parts such as high scores, help and game main page wherein the mini games are to be displayed are going to be coded by Karl Len Dimla.

UPDATE! :)

HI.
It's been weeks since we last updated our blog. We are sorry about that. :)
So at this point in time, we already made our possible storyboard. Possible, because we are still not sure if some things that we are planning to do are possible to be programmed by non-professionals, like us.:)

This is the set-up of our game:

LOST: MYSTERY ISLAND QUEST

I. THEME:

NATURE / SURVIVAL IN AN ISLAND
– AN ADVENTURE TYPE OF GAME

II. STORY LINE:

One day, an old man got a mysterious letter from his mailbox. Being curious about what’s inside this letter, he found out that it is a sketch of a map that will lead to an unknown treasure. Out of greediness, the old man packed up immediately and left through a plane. But an unforeseen storm hit and caused the plane he was riding to crash in an island. Only he remained alive in an extraneous place. Now he is an adventurer, lost in one of the unknown island somewhere in the 7,107 islands of the Philippines. What’s waiting for him in that magical island remains a mystery throughout his quest.

III. OBJECTIVES:

o Objective of the game itself:
The aim of the game is to help the adventurer (player) to survive in the island and eventually return to the modern city (civilization) by passing through different levels. Survive! Solve! Succeed!

o Objective of the game to teach on the player:
The game aims to teach lessons in Math4 and Science4 in able to help the player specially grade4 pupils learn and exercise their mind about the basics in the said subjects. It also teaches the player know the basic needs for survival and sharpen his critical thinking skills regarding on what strategies he is going to take in order to succeed.

IV. SETTING:

The setting is an unknown island full of wild animals featuring different sites such as caves, mountains, ritual grounds, bridges and many more.

LEVEL 1: “PLANTS A-HOY!”

Introduction:
The seed has different parts. Each part has its own responsibility to perform. Every part is important. Seeds are important because they help in plant reproduction. Seeds can most frequently be found in fruits.

Topic:
Planting seeds and identifying the different parts of the plant and seeds

Game description:
The adventurer needs somewhere to live in. But the enchanted island forbids people from cutting the enchanted plants. At this level, the adventurer must find a mysterious seed that can be found in the map. He must then assemble this seed to its proper form (a jigsaw puzzle), and plant it in the right soil (loam soil). After successfully planting, the seed will immediately grow into a magical talking tree and in order for him to allow the adventurer to cut his trunk, he must first answer 75% of his quiz correctly regarding the different parts of the plant and its functions (in the form of matching type). Finally, the last request of the tree is to multiply his kind. The adventurer must plant the same seed so it can be used by another adventurer that may be stranded in the future. After accomplishing, he now has a place to stay in!

LEVEL 2: “ANIMAL BUDDY”

Introduction:
As humans, it is our responsibility to take care of the animals. We benefit a lot from these animals. They give us food, clothing, security and companionship. In return we must give them due care and respect.

Topic:
Animal and their purpose

Game description:
While exploring into the deepest part of level 2, the adventurer will find a cabin. This cabin was once a storehouse of weapons. But it is locked and in order to open the door, you must answer 6 out of 10 questions correctly in a row. The questions consist of five pictures of animals to be displayed. The player must identify the MOST APPROPRIATE or COMMON role / benefit we humans can get. Among the five animals, one animal may cause harm. Some of the roles that the player can choose from are: FOOD, DRINK, COMPANIONSHIP, CLOTHING, DISEASE or any role depending on the given animals. One animal can only be placed in a category. You are given 10 set of questions and must answer at least 6 of them correctly in order to pass the level.

ADDITIONAL:
After successfully passing the level, additional information about the wild animals in the island will be shown for the benefit of the player.

Level 3: “Shape Math”

Introduction:
Geometrical shapes are important. Finding the correct areas, volumes, and dimensions of each shapes are crucial especially in creating huge structures. Pupils must be aware of these concepts and must know how to apply it in daily lives.

Topic:
Volumes, Areas, and Geometrical Shapes

Game Description:
Oh no! The path is blocked by a body of water. You must pass it in order to move to the next level. On the shore, you found a sketch of a boat half buried in the sand. By using the 10 woods you get in your journey or you get as a reward in level 1, a rope, and the sketch, you can create a boat. You must solve the different equations regarding the proper volume and areas of the dimensions of the boat (test type) and label the shapes present in the model in order to finish the task. Remember that you must first gather all the materials needed before answering the test. Obtaining at least 65% correct answers finishes the task.

Level 4: “Fast Math”

Introduction:
Solving mathematical equations correctly is good enough. We know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. But it is better to be accurate and precise at the same time. This will help us consume time while solving.

Topic:
Solving Fundamentals of Mathematics in a short period of time

Game Description:
Watch Out! You are now on the part of the island where a lot of traps are planted. You have no choice but to go in there, since the other route are full of wild animals. Luckily, you see a sign board with equations written on it. All you need to do is answer it correctly so you can know how many steps you are going to take in order not to activate the traps. But there’s a problem, you already activated a trap before realizing it. It’s a bomb! And it will explode in a short period of time. You must answer 10 set of mathematical equations correctly for 7 seconds each.

LEVEL 5: “I eat AND DIGEST to live.”

Introduction:
Our body is composed of different systems. Some of these systems are the Skeletal, Muscular and Digestive systems. The Skeletal system gives our body form and shape. The Muscular system helps us in our movement and accomplishing daily tasks. Lastly, the digestive system helps our body digest and absorb the vitamins and minerals coming from our food.

Topic:
Muscular, Skeletal and Digestive System of our Body

Game description:
This time, the adventurer found a ritual ground with unknown carvings on the stones. Out of curiosity, the adventurer enters the ground and tries to read these unknown letters. But something weird is going on, the spirit in that ground is terribly hungry. And this spirit only knows how to eat flesh and blood of a person. Looking around the place, the adventurer finds out that only food available around him is a medicinal herb. But the spirit does not know how to digest the herb. Help the adventurer decode the unknown letters by guiding the herb into the digestive track of the spirit before he gets eaten by it. The goal of this level is to identify the series of steps on how the food is being digested in our body.

LEVEL 6: “MATH FEVER“

Introduction:
Fractions and decimals are very small numbers. They are only part of a whole, yet play a very important role in our lives. Remember that being précised matters in our world.

Topic:
Fractions and Decimals

Game Description:
The adventurer is nearing to escape the island. But before he succeeds, his strength must be test first by this magical island. The adventurer must have a rope in this level in order to get to the other side of the mountain. Answering all the five equations involving fractions and decimals will get him to the other side of the mountain. Failing to answer at least one equation cuts the rope. Meaning, you must need to find another rope in order to repeat the course. Just remember that ropes are rare in the game.
But that’s not the end for this level. After going to the other side of the mountain, the adventurer will find a cave he must passed through. The adventurer needs a torch or a flashlight in order to enter the cave. But inside the cave, there’s a ferocious dragon lurking. The goal is to fight the dragon and kill it by answering equations involving fractions and decimals. Killing the dragon enables you to pass the cave and enter to the safe zone of the island. Meaning, after accomplishing this level, you’re now invulnerable and must only need to do one task before you can go out. Good luck!

LEVEL 7: “HEAT SOS”

Introduction:
Heat has many sources. The sun can be a source of heat. Rubbing two rocks can produce heat (friction). Producing fire can release heat. There are so many ways to produce heat! Amazing isn’t it?

Topic:
ENERGY

Game description:
The adventurer reached the safe zone in the island. There are rocks, dried leaves, sticks and a bottle of gas that can be found. A rescue plane is about to pass by the island. In a minute the plane will be in the perfect spot to notice the adventurer. But to do so, the adventurer must produce fire so that its smoke can be seen by the rescuers. A checklist containing temperature change, change in physical characteristics, and change in form must be filled. In order to do so, the adventurer must first rub two stones (clicking as many times as possible) to produce a small amount of fire. He must also add dried leaves and sticks to increase the amount of fire and at the end, add the bottle of gas to produce a huge amount of smoke.

BENEFIT:
CONGRATULATIONS! You now help the adventurer escape the magical island.
